GREAT WAR VETERANS
EFFECT OF LAND SALES ACT
. . GISBORNE, This Day. _The provisions of the Servicemen's Settlement and Land Sales Act, designed to improve the settlement of returned, men of the present war on the land, are tending to affect detrimentally the chances of men who served in the last war, judging by a case mentioned at a meeting of the Gisborne Returned Services Association. The case was one in which a man who served in the last war proposed to purchase a family property and to sell his present farm to another veteran of 1914-18. The two men have been informed that if either property is offered for sale the rehabilitation authorities will ask for section 59 of the Land Sales Act to be applied reserving the properties for the settlement of men returning from the present war.
The executive decided to press for Ministerial, action which would remove the anomaly.
