PRESIDENT'S CONFERENCE
NEW YORK, October 5. President Roosevelt has conferred with his four chief military advisers Admiral King, Generals Marshall and Arnold, and Admiral Leahy, his chief of staff.
According to the "New York Herald Tribune's" Washington correspondent, the meeting i'oreshadowed an intensification of the war against the Japanese, possibly an invasion-of the Philippines by General. Mac Arthur.
The Secretary of the Navy, Mr. J. V. Forrestal, at a Press conference, revealed that not a single American warship, except submarines, has been sunk in the Pacific in nearly a year.
