WELL PLASTERED

TARGETS IN GERMANY

RAIDS BY NIGHT AND DAY

(U.P.A, and 8.0. W.) Rec. 12.30 p.m. LONDON, October.3,

In one of the best nights of activity against railway targets, since D Day, Mosquitoes of the Second Tactical. Air Force last night, without loss, attacked 51 trains, most of which were in Germany near the 'Ruhr Valley and towards the Dutch border. Eight were attacked between Emmerich arid Gladbach, four north of Coblenz, and seven near Osnabruck, ahd others were spread over a large area of Germany and Holland, including the Arnhem area. Six locomotives are claimed to have beeri definitely destroyed. Fifteen fires were started among other trains. One fire, was visible for 30 miles. Five motor transport vehicles and nine barges were also attacked. After a bombing attack against a trawler off the Dutch coast three cannon attacks were made, and the trawler ran ashore while taking evasive action. A factory was also bombed and strafed.

Photographic interpretation of last evening's bombing by Mitchells and Bostons of seven German strong-points at Arnhem shows that the bombing was exceedingly accurate. Most of the reports record that the "aiming point was completely plastered." Military transport, factories, aerodromes, and other facilities in southern Germany were among targets attacked today by over 1000 Fortresses and Liberators, which were escorted by very strong forces of Mustangs. i gJrnifgs' ? nd Thunderbolts. Some Of tne targets were covered by clouds and were bombed by means of instruments. .
