DUTCH CANAL BREACHED

AIR ATTACK SUCCEEDS

Rec. 11 a.m. RUGBY, Oct. 3. A strong force of escorted R.A.F-. Lancasters breached the canal at Westkappelle, on the island of Walcheren. The attack was planned at high tide, and the crews reported that before they left they could see water flowing inland.

A correspondent at SHAEF says that the Dortmund-Ems canal has been breached in two places as a result of the Bomber Command .attack on September 23. Reconnaissance shows "distinctly that two branches of the canal are breached and that the canal at this point is dry."—B.O.W.
