FIRST MILLION TONS
DROPPED ON ENEMY TARGETS
(By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright.) Rec. 2 p.m. WASHINGTON, Oct. 2. The American Army Air Fowes have dropped 1,000,000 tons of bombs on our enemies since Pearl Harbour. Of this total almost half has been dropped since D Day. Disclosing this, General H. H. Arnold said the second million tons of bombs would be dropped in a fraction of the time required for the first. ,
■ The American Army Air Forces had destroyed 27,000 enemy planes at the cost of 14,600 planes, but accidents had increased the total of the United States losses to approximately 42,000 planes. The American Air Forces lost 14 600 planes on combat missions and 9000 in overseas non-combat missions, while operation losses in the United States totalled 17-500.
