SOUVENIR OF CHURCHILL

(Special P.A. Correspondent.) Rec. 10 a.m. ' LONDON, Oct. 2. While he was standing near the House of Commons recently, Ordinary Seaman, J. D. Freeman, of Wellington, saw Mr. Churchill drive past in his car towards the entrance to the House. Freeman immediately gave the V sign, and Mr. Churchill, seeing him, waved a cheery answer with his cigar. To Freeman's astonishment, a detective came up to him shortly afterwards, and presented him with the cigar butt which the Prime Minister had been smoking only a few minutes previously. Mr. Churchill had instructed the detective to give it to, the New Zealander who had waved the V sign. Freeman is delighted. He declares that he is going to "frame" the butt.
