LATE MR. J. J. W. POLLARD
The funeral of Mr. John J. W. Pollard took place today at Karori Cemetery. Among those present at the service in the Crematorium chapel were the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) and his Chief Secretary (Mr. C. A. Jeffery), representatives of the Wellington Savage Club, including Chief Savage Howard Foster, the Thorndon Bowling Club president (Mr. J. Gibson), the staff of the Director of Publicity, and members of the Parliamentary Press Gallery. The officiating minister was the Rev. C. H. Isaacson, and the pall-bearers were Messrs. T. R. Pollard, J. T. Paul, Alan Mulgan, and Brigadier N. McD. Weir. "Svenska Dagbladet" reports that three young Dutchmen have escaped from labour in Germany by swimming from Elsinore to Helsingborg. It took them six hours to do this. » ■
