CAPTURE OF BREST
16,000 PRISONERS TAKEN
Rec. 2 p.m. LONDON, September 17. Brest was liberated last night, according to Paris radio. The radio stated-teat the Americans took 16,000 prisoners in Brest, and discovered about 1000 German bodies.
Berlin radio states that American infantry and tanks operated inside the western and eastern districts of Brest after hundreds of British and American planes had again bombed the fortifications. ! '
The total number of prisoners taken at Le Havre is reported to have been 11,257. Many of the prisoners were seasoned troops who had fought in Russia. They said that they had never experienced anything so unnerving as the bombing'of their, positions ,by the R.A.F. ' ,
