FIJIAN AWARDED SILVER STAR
The War Department has announced that Private Fred Charles Narruhn, Fijian soldier attached to the United States forces^ as an interpreter, was awarded the Silver Star for conduct under fire in action on November 20----22, 1943, at Makin atoll, in the Gilbert Islands. The citation says that Narruhn "guided leading elements in, establishing contact with another 'of our landing forces . . . and voluntarily accompanied a reconnaissance, patrol to a nearby island, where he searched out friendly natives to secure urgently---needed information....". • • ■■: --..->■.
