School Holiday Dance. All young people who are interested are invited to attend a meeting which is to be held at the Plunket Rooms, 18 Kent Terrace, on Thursday, August 24, at 5 p.m., to discuss arrangements for a dance during the coming school holidays. R<wseniatives were appointed to attend the annual conference of lac iN-ew Zealand Alliance to be held next week Mrs. Hoult served afternoon-tea. Midwives in Britain. ... In an address given by Mrs. Peter Fraser at the annual meeting of the Plunket Society on the Health, Nursery, and Midwifery Services of Great Britain, she stated that midwives deliver two-thirds of the number of babies born in Britain. There are 65 000 midwives on the roll in England and Wales, but only 16,000 practise. Nearly 12,000' are on the roll in Scotland. Complete training for midwifery lasts for one year if taken after qualification as a State registered nurse; for a woman not thus qualified the training is two years. About half the midwives now practising are State registered nurses; and nine out of every ten of the pupil midwives now taking the course are State registered nurses. ,
