LYCEUM CLUB

IMPORTANT CELEBRATION

The twenty-first birthday of the Lyceum Club was celebrated on Tuesday evening in the club rooms, which had been beautifully decorated by Mrs. Oakley with a profusion of spring flowers and wattle. Former presidents of the club, Lady Norwood, Mrs. D. C. Bates, Mrs. A. D. Kerr, and Mrs. Johannes Andersen, were present.

In welcoming the guests the president (Mrs. David Herbert) said, that gratitude was due, not only to founda. tion members who established the cluo, but to all those splendid women throughout the years, who, when difficult times came, loyally faced and overcame troubles and made the club what it was today, a valuable feature of the social life of women in the capital city. The president also paid tribute to the late Mrs. Hadfield and the late Mrs. J. J. Clark, two former presidents. Mrs.. D. C. Bates and Mrs. Andersen gave brief accounts of the early days of the club. There was a fancy dress parade; Miss F George (Queen Elizabeth) and Mrs. E M. Sample (Chevalier) were the prize-winners. Miss Dorothy Downing contributed pianoforte solos and vocal items were given by Miss K. Fuller, Mrs. Conner, and Mrs. Warner. Mrs. H. Cane was their accompanist. Original work of verse and song by Rosa Knight, Fanny Richardson, Wanda Herbert, and Eva Sample were presented by the Penwomen's Circle. The Drama Circle contributed a, short play, "Postal Orders," those taking part being Misses M. E. Ahem and Keasberry, Mrs. yon Haast, Mrs. Warner, and Mr. Graham. A feature of the supper was a large birthday cake, decorated with 21 candles, made and given for the occasion by Mrs. Billman, a vice-president.
