SUNDERLAND SEAPLANES

LONDON, July 12.

Four transport Sunderland seaplanes are to be flown to New Zealand by former members of the New Zealand Catalina Squadron who have completed a tour of operations in the West African theatre. They will fly in pairs, the first commanded by Wing Commander D. H. Baird, A.F.C., of Wellington, and the second by Flight Lieutenant H. K. [Patience, of Wellington. Their route will be via the Atlantic and the Pacific, and will cover 16,000 miles in about 120 hours'- flying time. The I flight will occupy a few weeks. There will be 13 stages. _ The captains, in addition to Wing Commander Baird and Flight Lieutenant Patience, will be Flight Lieutenants J. L. C. Pettit, of Wellington, and J. S. Shepherd, of Dunedin. Other members of the crew will include Flying Officer N. E. Dawson, of Wellington, and Pilot Officer T. J. Ladd, of Taranaki.
