GREYMOUTH SEEKING LOAN
P.A. GREYMOUTH, This Day;
A decision to seek the sanction of the Local Government Loans Board to a loan of £ 100,000 to carry out necessary harbour improvements, and to seek the assistance of the Government to provide the balance required, of about a similar sum, was reached by the Greymouth Harbour Board tonight.
The ex-chairman, Mr. J. B. Kent, who led a recent deputation to the Government on the matter, stated that if the board raised £100,000 it was expected that the Government would raise the rest in view of the national importance of the port as a coal and timber outlet, .
Mr. W. L. Newnham, Engineer-in-Chief, Public Works Department, recently inspected the port to report to the Government..
