UNIFORMS FOR SEAMEN
"Rangitane Jack" comments on the suggestion made by Mrs. M. H. Chatfleld and supported by Mr. P. Noel Baker, Lord Leathers, Lord Chatfield, Lord Bledisloe, and others, that uniforms should be provided for members of the Merchant Service. He writes: —"There has always been a uniform available for men of the Merchant Service, to my knowledge for the past 30 years, but at a high price, payable by the seaman himself. The men prefer to walk ashore in their 'civvies' as the forgotten service, wearing the little badge (M.N.)."
