OUTPUT OF MEAT FOR EXPORT.
The New Zealand Meat Producers Eoard states that supervising graders again report satisfactory feed conditions in every part of the Dominion. Stocks should therefore winter well as feed supplies are assured. Some improvement is shown in the total killings, although lambs are still down to tho extent of 1,059,763 carcasses compared with the previous season. Ewes, however, which arc a substantial factor in the exports, show an incrcaso for this season of 14,152 carcasses.
Total killings to May 13, with the comparable figures for last season In parentheses, are as follows:—Lambs, 9,112,461 (10,172,224); wethers, 503,142 (544,002) ; ewes, 1,622,935 (1,608,783); beef (quarters), 202,900 (410,545); boneless beef (freight carcasses), 388,512 (676,515); and bobby veal, 63,528 (76,824).
Average killing weights to May 13 have been as follows.—Dominion averages: Lambs, 33.59 lb (33.571b) ; wethers, 55.281b (54.771b) ; ewes, 52.531b (54 791b).
The peak of activity at freezing works has passed, but the reports from the board's supervising graders are that most works are busy on cattle, and the killing season will bo somewhat longer than In the previous year.
