KING'S BIRTHDAY
HOLIDAY OBSERVANCE
War Cabinet has approved of the observance of Monday, June 5, as a holiday subject to the requirements of any production controller. This is in accordance with the Sovereign's Birthday Observance Act, which fixes the first Monday in June as the official day for observing the King's birthday. Where any controller required work to be carried out on Monday next, direct notification, would be given to the factories concerned, states Mr. D. I. Macdonald, secretary of the New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation, in reporting that the federation had received official advice of the holiday observance. From information received, however, he understood that a request to work on Monday would be made to very few factories. In cases where controllers required work to be carried out, this would be paid for in accordance with the appropriate award, subject to the provisions of the Overtime and Holidays Labour Legislation Sv pension Orders. •
