ARCTIC MASTERY

GAINED BY ROYAL NAVY

VESSELS ESCAPE ATTACK

Rec. 1.45 pjn. LONDON, May 29. The British Fleet has gunned and bombed its way into what appears to be a hands-down mastery of the Arctic route to Russia, states the British United Press naval correspondent after four months with the Royal Navy.

"For over 100 days the Fleet, free from attack, has been sweeping into the very shadows of Norway as an invasion prelude," he says. "I am convinced the Allies have won the Battle of the Arctic just as they have won the Battle of the Atlantic.

"They have smashed U-boat attacks, and hammered the German surface fleet until.it is doubtful whether this constitutes more than a feeble threat. and German plane attacks have ceased completely. "The Royal Navy is using tactics similar to those in the Atlantic. It is covering shipping with aircraftcarriers in addition to ship escorts, and sometimes is making a run without a single loss."
