ACTION OFF NORWAY
SUCCESSFUL AIR STRIKES Rec. 10.50 a.m. RUGBY, May 17. An Admiralty communique states: — "During operations recently off the Norwegian coast naval aircraft operating from carriers and escorted by ships of the Home Fleet made successful strikes against enemy shipping and shore installations. A striking force under command of Rear-Admiral A. W. Latouche Bisset, flying his flag in the cruiser. Royalist. "Attacks were 'carried out by Hellcats equipped with bombs and operating under the protection of Wildcat and Hellcat fighters. Bomb hits were obtained on two supply ships of medium size, and two armed trawlers were damaged. Three other supply ships of medium size were possibly damaged. In addition, oil tanks and a fish oil factory north-east of Stadland were hit. "Nine enemy aircraft which attempted to interfere in the operations were shot down. One other was probably shot down and two others were damaged. Other enemy aircraft were driven off by naval fighters and gunfire from our ships. Five naval aircraft are missing. All the ships returned safely from the operations, having suffered no damage."—B.O.W.
