NO VOLCANO HERE
The statement made in a recent publication that Wellington Harbour was a tremendous volcanic centre, as evidenced by the earthquakes still experienced in it, was described by Dr. P. Marshall, in the course of a lecture which he gave last night on "volcanoes," as "a concentration of untruthful remarks which is hard to beat." There was no evidence of volcanic activity nearer to Wellington than Ruapehu, ;aid Dr. Marshall, and volcanoes did not cause what was ordinarily described as an earthquake, although they did cause earth tremors.
