MILK SUBSIDY DISPUTE
SYDNEY, May 17. No milk will be served to householders in Sydney and Newcastle after Friday. Dairymen made this decision following the refusal of the Federal Government to grant a subsidy of 3£d a gallon to suppliers serving this zone. The Acting Prime Minister, Mr. Forde, announced yesterday that the Government would pay a subsidy of 2Jd a gallon, but the dairy-farmers rejected the offer as insufficient. Suburban dairymen will supply milk free to hospitals. Mr. Forde said that the Commonwealth Government would not be intimidated by threats to cut off milk supplies, and the milk producers must accept the full responsibility for their action.
