SECOND LIEUT. HARGEST
Second-Lieutenant G. R. Hargest, whose death from wounds overseas was reported yesterday, was a son of Brigadier J. Hargest, M.P.. and Mrs. Hargest, and was born at Rakauhauka, Southland. As soon as he was 18 years of age he jointed the Territorial Force and rose to the rank of'secondlieutenant. ' When he went overseas with the Second N.Z.E.F. he dropped his commission, as others similarly placed were required to do at that time, but subsequently he was recommissioned in the field. Before joining up w/th the Expeditionary Force he was on the staff of the National Bank at Invercargill.
