CAMPAIGN IN ASSAM
ONE ENEMY BLOCK BROKEN (By Telegraph—Preas Association—Copyright.) Rec. 9 a.m. LONDON, April 12. A South-east Asia communique reports that the enemy occupied a small hill in the Imphal Plain area. The Allies inflicted casualties in the ensuing heavy fighting.
No important change is reported from the Kohima area, where the enemy activity has somewhat decreased. Our operations to clear the road in this area are developing.
Activity on the Tiddim Road, south of Imphal, was confined to patrolling. The Allied forces yesterday cleared an important enemy road block on the
Tuam-Pagel road south-east of Imphal. There are now no road blocks behind our troops operating on this road. The Chinese occupied Tingring, in Mogaung Valley, south-west of Wakawng. Allied planes yesterday continued their widespread" offensive operations against the enemy targets throughout Burma. Tokio official radio claims that a Japanese column is only seven miles north of Imphal. Another column is 14 miles to the south of the objective, the radio said.
