EASTER HOLIDAYS

OUTDOOR ATTRACTIONS

The Wellington Bowling Centre's Easter fours tournament will be one of the main outdoor fixtures for the Easter holidays. Play will commence tomorrow on various city and suburban greens and will continue on Saturday arid Monday. The three Wellington rowing clubs, Star, Wellington, and Petone, will combine in a social regatta on Saturday afternoon. If the wind is from the north the Korokoro course, Petone, will be used, but if otherwise the Oriental Bay course will be used. Eight-oar races will be the main feature of the programme if the regatta is held at Petone. All oarsmen and supporters of the sport are being invited to attend the regatta,, which will be held even if the weather is unfavourable. . ,

The Wellington Cricket Association will stage two matches at the Basin Reserve on Saturday as its contribution to the testimonial to Mr. A. Brewer, who is retiring from the position of custodian of the ground after long service. The first match will be between the Hutt eleven, winners of the senior championship, and Kilbirnie. the runners-up, and the other game will see a team of colts engage a team of senior players. Both matches will start at 10.30 a.m., and should provide some attractive cricket.

The only racing fixture which in normal times would be within reasonable distance for Wellington racegoers is that at Feilding, which is well outside the limit imposed by the rail travel restrictions.

The British Sailors' Society's Easter regatta will be held on Saturday at Evans Bay. Events will include row-. ing races for the Merchant Navy Cup and the Royal Navy Cup. The Sea Cadets and Sea Scouts will compete for the Regatta Cup, while a sailing race between Sea Scouts and Wrens has also been arranged. The public will have an opportunity of watching the races from launches which .will be. plying in the bay. Afternoon tea will be served in the Sea Scouts' rooms.
