LATE MR. H. B. LUSK
SUPREME COURT TRIBUTES
Tributes to the late Mr. H. B Lusk Crown Prosecutor at Napier, were paid at a gathering of Jke Bench and Bar in the Supreme, CCurt, Wellington, yesterday. With the Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers) on the Bench were Mr. Justice Smith and Mr. Justice Fmlay. There was a large attendance of members of the Bar, and also present were representatives of the Magistracy.
The Attorney-General (Mr. Mason) said that Mr. Lusk had practised his profession in Napier for more than 50 years and had made a notable name for himself far beyond his own district. His learning and ability were very great and would alone have given him eminence. His courtesy, kindliness, generosity, and consideration for all were elements in his character so marked as to win him universal regard. On behalf of the New Zealand Law Society, Mr. G. G. G. Watson said that Mr. Lusk had been for 30 years a member of the council of the society, and he was also a member of the disciplinary, committee of that body. No member, of the profession in New Zealand had given higher or more valued service to the welfare of the profession. Representing the Hawke's Bay Law Society, Mr. W. G. Wood said he could think of no man more universally respected than Mr. Lusk, no man who so easily and so completely won and retained the affection of all who knew him. The Chief Justice said that Mr. Lusk had been well and affectionately known to them all. For many years he was the leader of the Bar in Hawke's Bay. A more scrupulously honourable advocate it would be impossible to find, and as a Crown Prosecutor he was a model of fairness. All the speakers offered their sympathy to tthe relations. |
