CANTERBURY ALL OUT

ALLEN'S BOWLING SUCCESS

Canterbury suffered a setback when play, was resumed this morning in the representative . cricket match with Wellington at , the Basin Reserve, O'Brien being run out in'attempting a smart single' before a run had been scored. Smith, a left-hander, joined Uttley, and though his right hand is a physical handicap he soon showed himself to be a forceful batsman. When the pair had added 38 runs, Uttley stepped out to play Allen, missed the ball, and was stumped. He had batted 178 minutes for his 75 runs and had hit eight 4's. Scott, who. was previously not out in representative matches this season, lifted the second ball he received from Allen to Bam in the outfield. _ .., Soon after this Allen warned Smith against leaving his crease before the >all had been delivered, and when ;he batsman disregarded the warning Allen brought his arm over, kept possession of the ball, and ran him out. Previously Allen had had the hardhitting Mcßae caught bytJrawford off a powerful drive which dropped short of the fence. When Burtt lifted another of the slow left-handers deliveries to Chapman, Allen collected the final wicket of the innings, finishing with the fine figures of four .for 59. The innings closed at 12.26 p.m., having occupied a batting time orZN minutes. With their opponents only 49 runs in front Wellington had brought about a good recovery. WELLINGTON BAT AGAIN. Bain again had a short stay when Wellington commenced their second innings, being bowled after making'a single. Mcßae bowled leg theory to McVicar and had an orthodox field for Stringer, the left-hander. These batsmen were still together at lunch, when the score was 13 for one wicket. . McVicar and Stringer made fairprogress for a while after lunch, but then excellent catches disposed of both of them in quick succession. This made the score at 2.10 p.m., 29 for three wickets'.
