It Is reported that the experiment of grading meat in Wellington has resulted in an increasing demand for prime heifer and ox beef, with a consequential lower demand for second quality beef. In view of the prevailing serious shortage of bl;ef and the announcement that rationing is inevitable, any universal extension of grading would have the effect of placing a still heavier strain on available supplies of prime beef. This may. be the reason behind a decision to defer grading In the Manawatu area. Grading was to have operated as from Monday next.
