EFFECT ON SUPPLIES O.C. PALMERSTON N., This Day. It Is reported that the experiment of grading meat in Wellington has resulted in an increasing demand for prime heifer and ox beef, with a consequential lower demand for second quality beef. In view of the prevailing serious shortage of bl;ef and the announcement that rationing is inevitable, any universal extension of grading would have the effect of placing a still heavier strain on available supplies of prime beef. This may. be the reason behind a decision to defer grading In the Manawatu area. Grading was to have operated as from Monday next.
