MRS. FRASER'S PRIDE

N.Z. WOMEN'S WAR WORK

A high tribute to the^war work done by women in New Zealand was paid by Mrs. Peter' Fraser, when interviewed on Thursday on her arrival in Sydney with her husband, the Prime Minister. During her brief visit to the Commonwealth Mrs. Fraser is anxious to learn as much as possible about the work being done by* Australian women. As president of the Women's War Service Auxiliary in .New Zealand, she in her turn was able to tell Australian women what New Zealanders had done in the various services, in industry, and in voluntary war work. "We have one group which, I think, is unique, and which impressed Mrs. Roosevelt very much," said Mrs. Fraser. "These are the girls who form the obstetrical group of the St. John Ambulance Nursing Brigade to help in maternity homes. The girls assist in many s ways to relieve the nurse of all duties except the actual nursing." Mrs. Fraser also spoke with pride of the work being done by New Zealand canteen and welfare workers in the Middle East. "These girls, known as Tuis, are attached to the Army," she explained, "and in addition to their work in hospitals and canteens, they do a grand job shopping for soldiers who want gifts for 'Mum' or the girl friend."
