QUESTION LUDICROUS
MEN AND WOMEN DOCTORS
Women doctors in the Royal Army Medical Corps are now on exactly the same footing as men, according to a statement made recently in the House of Commons by the Secretary of State for War, Sir James Grigg. The original plan in Britain was that" women doctors should be attached to the W.A.A.F., the W.R.N.S., and the A.T.S., but long before the blitz they were already working at all the Army general hosI pitals, and as far back as July, 1940, they were dealing with Dunkirk veterans as well as specialising in various branches. SUPPORTED IN RUSSIA. During the blitz on London and Liverpool women doctors were attached to all rescue units, casualty clearing stations, and casualty wards in the principal hospitals. The Government decided that to bring the sex question into discussions of doctors' value was ludicrous, a view which is supported in Russia, where women serve as military doctors and go into action with units. In the R.A.M.C. women now draw the same pay and allowances as men and occupy the same mess.
