MORE RABBITS, LESS MILK Rec. 9 a.m. CANBERRA, Jan. 6. Rabbit-trapping for carcasses will become a protected industry when the Australian meat rationing scheme comes into operation on January 17. Rabbit meat will not be rationed, and thus will supplement the meat obtained by coupons.
In New South Wales, rabbits are reported to be threatening food production over a wide area of the State, and the plans to organise trapping are being welcomed.
Australia's butter production has declined and a severe milk shortage is predicted for the winter. Commonwealth butter production for the five months ended November 30 was 64,912 tons—Booo tons less than in the corresponding period of 1942. Cheese production is slightly better than last year.
