BIG SCRUB FIRE. The whole or the ridge between ■Mahena Bay and York Bay was burned out today. The fire started among gorse and undergrowth in Mahena Bay, through a rubbish fire getting out of hand, and the southerly breeze spread the flames uphill and over the ridge. The Lower Hutt Fire Brigade with Government emergency pumping plant prevented ilames reaching the inhabited portion oX York Bay. The fire was well in-hand by 3 p.m.
