GERMAN DESPERATION

Although Moscow has not yet v officially announced that the Red Army has crossed the Polish border, Berlin radio's military commentator, Sertorious tonight tacitly admitted that Russian forces had reached the border area when he declared that the Germans are preparing a defence line behind the Russo-Polish border.

He said: "Vatutin's army group, advancing beyond Olevsk and Novograd; Volynsk will be faced^by anew defence line which is now being constructed. Yon Mannstein, in the past 24 hours, .has started determined counter-attacks from bases in the Novograd Volynsk area, says Reuters Moscow correspon- • dent. The Red Army, however, jiave beaten back all counter-blows and are again advancing north and south 01 , Novograd Volynsk.
