American shipyards in 1943 turned out 1896 merchantmen, totalling 19,239,000 deadweight tons, thus exceeding President Roosevelt's goal of 19,000,000 tons, said Rear-Admiral Land, chairman of the Maritime Com» mission.
The output in 1943 included 1238 Liberty ships, but the 1944 production, which schedules 20,000,000 tons, will concentrate ori Victory ships instead of the slower Liberty ships.
