were also captured between Olevsk and Novograd Volynsk and as much as 20 miles farther south.

The Germans have been throwing in big forces of tanks and infantry, regardless of losses, and fighting hard for every fortified point, but the Russians are swamping their positions in a great tidal wave, inflicting defeat after defeat, says the Moscow correspondent of the "News Chronicle." Moscow radio says that the Soviet tanks and infantry are moving with clocklike precision, smashing one strongpoint after another. Nazi commentators say the Germans are adopting well-tried elastic defence tactics in face of the Russian numerical superiority. The Russians reached the old Polish frontier at Gorodnitsa, north-west of Novograd Volynsk, according to the Stockholm "Svenskadagbladet's" Moscow correspondent. The thrust south-west of Kiev is continuing, though at present not as fast as the other.

A new drive by Red Army forces, north-westward from Nevel on the northern sector of the White Russian front, has made important progress, and 70 towns and villages were captured yesterday. This advance is developing a serious threat to one of the main German lines of communications with their forces before Leningrad.
