LABOUR OPINION

THE MOSLEY RELEASE

SUPPORT FOR MR. MORRISON (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright.) Rec. 1.50 p.m. • LONDON, Dec. 1. Before the House of Commons met, according -to the Press Association's lobby correspondent, Mr. Morrison, at a private meeting made a, last-»minute appeal,to the Labour members of the House to support him in the debate, and they, agreed by a majority of about 20 votes. . The Rev. G. S. Woods (Labour), moving the amendment, said it was in no sense a vote of censure and did not imply any lack of confidence in the Government or in Mr. Morrison. Mosley's release was a most profound psychological mistake. An overwhelming majority of the constituents were satisfied that an error of judgment had been made, and the' reaction had been spontaneous. 'The public, indignant and bewildered, are cynic about the matter. It is felt that the release is a confirmation of the old adage "one law for T the rich and another for the poor." If the.United Nations are to pull together in the task of rebuilding the world on a democratic basis, it is vital ..that there should be no misunderstanding and an aboslute minimum of suspicion. Mr. Woods added that the decision to release Mosley; had caused reactions in the Dominions. There was a general feeling that Britain was not really determined to destroy Fascism. . Mr H. J. Parker (Labour), seconding the amendment, said that the public were asking if a similar line would be taken regarding Hess and Hitler afC&oSel sfr rLambert Ward (Conservative) said that Fascism in Britain was a dead Jetter and the activities of the British ■Union were a thing of the Pa|ir Percy Harris (Labour) said that the illness from which Mosley was suffering was very common among PrD° ne L/ Haden West (Labour) said that the decision to release Mosley was made on what would appear to him trivial' grounds. "Inflamed varicose veins are to many poor people an incident in their daily lives," he said.
