PRESIDENT CALLS FOR CALM
! LONDON; November 22. , The President "and. members of the ! Lebanese Government returned to •Beirut today following their, release (by, the French., • ' A vast, cheering crowd welcomed tthem back, and- the. President, spoke ,to the assembled people outside, his residence. He told them to keep calm, as the independence of• the; Lebanon was not, threatened. In Algiers today the French Consultative:: Assembly is due . to- begin what: promises' to be one of the most important debates it has* had so-far. This-i ifc the debate on Eranceis foreign policy which was arranged after the communique had been issued on. the Moscow conference. The debate is expected to last two days. It will be opened by one of the delegates from the resistance movement inside France who left the country only about a month ago. The French Commissioner for Foreign Affairs is expected to attend. It is also possible that the assembly will discuss the new situation in Lebanon.
