WARNING TO OTHERS
GAOL FOR ENTERING WHARF
For entering a wharf without a permit, Daniel Clarke, Thorndon Quay, was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., today. The Magistrate said he had been threatening to impose sentences instead of fines, and the present penalty would be a warning to others. Evidence was given that a constable refused the defendant permission to go on to the wharf as he had *no pass, but the defendant persisted in arguing. When the constable turned to inspect other passes the defendant went on to the wharf.
