American bombers dropped 40 tons of demolition bombs, blasting a large zinc smelting plant at Kwangyen, 'near Haiphong, says General Stilwell's communique. Fighters attacked a large steamer on the. Yangtze River, near Kiukiang, and made a low-level attack, against hangars and warehouses at Kurkiang air base. All the American planes returned.
United States bombers have ranged over a wide area of central and northern Burma during the last few days, and have hammered many Japanese targets.
