FOR THOSE WHO SERVE

Sir,—l re ad with interest the letter in Saturday night's paper regarding the'3o Merchant Seamen who were in Wellington Hospital and in need of a convalescent period. Ia: i pleased to be able to inform you that the matter has been taken up with Mr. Hancox, vice-president of the British Sailors' Society/ by members of the Hostess Circle, and arrangements have now been made for all merchant seamen who would benefit by a chance to spend a convalescent period in the pleasant atmosphere of private homes after their trying experiences. Offers of hospitality have come from farms as far away as Marton by people who are interested in the welfare of our sick and wounded and we feel that merchant saemen come high on this list. It is both the duty and the privilege of all to take an interest in the welfare of these brave men in whose hearts there is no selfishness, their one hope being that they may be restored to health and returned to their ship. Arrangements have also been made with a military camp for a number of men and W.A.A.Cs whose homes are outside Wellington and who also would be pleased with the change from camp to home life for a few hours, to be the guests of homes in and around Wellington each weekend. Many more names are now needed by the Hostess Circle to enable us to carry on this necessary work for *the members of our New Zealand Forces, and I would be pleased to receive offers addressed to me c/o P.O. Box 199, Wellington. This is a call that I am sure only needs to be made to be heeded and although we cannot discharge in full pur debt to the men who sail our ships and guard our shores our-constant devotion to their welfare will be a humbje recompense for some of their sacrifices. Tom etc " MRS. J. W. INNES, Liaison Officer.
