"War expenditure by Australia in July and August was £87,762,000. This is £.10,000,000 a week, or £526,000,000, a year. In 1942-43 the war cost Australia £561,787,000. Figures issued by the Commonwealth Treasury show that of the total war expenditure of £87,762,000 in Juy and August, £25,636,000 came from revenue and £63,126,000 from loan funds. Treasury bills have now reached £299,250,000, indicating the degree in which bank ! credit has been used to finance the war [expenditure. ■ "- ' ;
