Addressing the annual conference of ithe New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation, the Minister of Supply (Mr. Sullivan) said it appeared to him that the principlel-of import control had come to stay, not only in New Zealand but on an international basis. The present system might not be the best and an investigation should be made with the object of getting the best out of. it, he said. We stand for the development of the economic resources of the country and we will not take a fiscal course that will have the effect of reducing our goods." The Minister stated that Mr. R. W. Marshall. New Zealand Supply Mission in Washington, said that the shipping position had materially improved. Since the military requirements had been fairly well met commercial importations were being permitted. A clearance of piled up goods was being made in America, and until something important happened boats would be able to carry essential goods. Paper users should exercise caution, said Mr. Sullivan, as man-power was lacking iir the American forests.
