BROADCAST REPLY SOUGHT
Mr. A. P. Harper, on behalf of the Independent Group, has sent a telegram to the Prime Minister asking that, in view of the telegrams forwarded to Independent' Group candidates and in view of the circumstances in which they were forwarded, as set out in the published statements, the Group should be given a few minutes on the air tonight to state its side of the case. He suggests as a. further reason that there should be an opportunity to refute statements that the text of the recent Independent Group broadcast was first- submitted to the Labour Party. "In your speech last night you said that if anything was unfairly said of the Labour Party which could not be replied to .in the Press you would use the broadcasting service. We claim the same right." Their candidates had been unfairly attacked at the last minute and they claimed in justice the right to reply.
