MISSING AUSTRALIANS
CANBERRA, September 23
No news has yet been obtained by the Commonwealth Government of 5127 officers and men of the A.I.F. reported missing in military operations against the Japanese. Announcing this today, the Army Minister, Mr. F. M. Forde, said it was known that 18,156 Australian soldiers were held prisoners by the Japanese. Every endeavour was being made to obtain information about missing men.
