SUNDAY RUNNING
ADJUSTMENTS IN PAY
Proposals made by the General Manager of Railways, Mr. E. Casey, for the adjustment of Sunday pay have been accented on trial by the railway bus drivers in the Wellington-Hutt service, who staged a short: strike last weekend on this issue. ; ~ ■ v ~ .• ;-.'. A special meeting of the members of the Railway Road Pa'S§enger> Service Branch of- the-.; -Amalgamated Society of Railway*; Servants was* held; at Lower; Hutt early this; mqrmng to discuss Mr. Casey's\ proposals made in reply to the men's'- representations earlier in the week, which were supported by the general secretary of the A.S.R.S., Mr. L. Mcllvride. It was decided to give a fair trial to the Department's proposal to treat Sunday as a rest day in terms of the Passenger Transport Regulations, under which work performed on Sunday will be paid for at the rate of. time and a half for the first fou^ hours;and double time thereafter. These rates are already operating under the^ New Zealand Passenger Transport Drivers') award. . _-
