A communique issued by the Yugoslav People's Army of • Liberation states:—

"Yugoslav partisan forces have destroyed a bridge between Susak and Fiume. The railway from Ogulin to Susak has been destroyed at several points, and all traffic stopped. Heavy fighting continues for Ogulin. The great battle for Split has now been waged for eight days. Large and strong fortifications have been erected for the protection of this important coastal port. Two thousand Germans so far have been killed in the fighting for Split. The Germans have brought up planes and guns, but have gained no ground
