Heavy aerial blows against the Japanese ground air forces in the Hankow area have thwarted any further Japanese attempt to invade the Tungting Lake area this year, said General C. Chennault. He added that American airmen, in the first half of September, destroyed 40 enemy planes, probably destroyed 32, and damaged five, sank 11,000 tons of shipping, and damaged 48,000 tons. . ,
