GRATEFUL TROOPS
CHEQUE FROM'TONGA
New Zealand troops at Tonga hay« reversed the usual procedure of being at the receiving end of patriotic activities by themselves sending a cheque for £25 to the National Patriotic Fund Board. The money has been forwarded in appreciation of all that has -been done for the comfort and well-being of the men on the island,' and it is a gesture which is appreciated by the board, which has sent a letter expressing thanks on behalf of the patriotic movement generally and its supporters in the Dominion.. . . -:■
"All ranks join with me in expressing our great appreciation of the assistance given us by your representatives here," stated a letter received from the officer commanding at Tonga. 'The comfort and well-being of our men have been their first consideration at all times. The generous supply of all types of equipment for the many unit recreation huts has assisted very considerably in making conditions in the various camps pleasant for all our soldiers. The assistance given in establishing, furnishing, and maintaining our central recreation centre has been of the utmost value. Apart from this recreation centre, there are no facilities here which cater for our soldiers on leave. The recreation centre equipped by the Patriotic Board and run by our WAA.C.s provides just that break in. the regimental life of our soldiers which not only prevents staleness but assists so greatly in keeping them fit and contented. With best wishes and many thanks from all members of my. force for the great assistance given.
