SERVICE VOTING

Not only overseas but also in the Dominion a start has been made with voting by New Zealand service personnel and merchant seamen for candidates at the General Election, and also on the licensing issue. Special facilities have been provided, and the procedure being followed is in accordance with the provisions laid down, in the Electoral (Members of the Forces) Regulations.
All personnel overseas and those who have served overseas may vote irrespective of age, but those whose service has been confined to New Zealand must have attained the age of 21 years. Polling booths have been provided in the service establishments, and voting may take place until 7 p.m. on September 24, the evening before election day. The votes of servicemen on furlough or leave may be cast at any post office during the same period. Servicemen however, who have not voted as specially provided may vote at any polling booth on election day. A' member of the Forces may vote for the electoral district for which he is:registered as an elector, or, if not registered, then for the electoral district in which, is situated his last residential, address before being called for service., When voting, every member of the Forces issued with a pay-book must produce it for endorsement of the fact that he has voted. Any member of the Forces not issued with a pay-book must produce a certificate from his commanding officer to the effect that to the best of the commanding officer's knowledge and belief the member of the Forces is entitled to vote.. The service votes cast in New Zealand and overseas will be included in the results available in the Dominion on the night of-September 25.
