The City Council last night recorded its deep regret at the death of Mr. B. G. H. Burn, of Karori, for many years a member of the City Council, and its sympathy with Mrs. Burn. The late Mr. Burn, said the Deputy Mayor (Councillor Luckie), was a man for whom all had a warm admiration for his blunt, straightforward1 character and his jovial disposition. Councillor K. L. Macaliste:; has been appointed chairman of the. reserves committee of the. City Council.
Advice has been received, states a Press Association message, that Mr. Austin Reynolds, Whangarei, has been awarded the M.B.E. for services when his ship was sunk by enemy fire. It is believed that the incident occurred in the Caribbean Sea. Mr. Reynolds has been an engineer in tankers during the whole of the war.
The Rev. R. B. Davison, of Auckland, will shortly return to Queensland, where he was formerly Archdeacon of Rockhampton and Administrator of the Diocese. He will be succeeded in the charge of the parish of Holy Sepulchre, Khyber Pass, by the Rev. F. Parsons, Vicar of Ellerslie.
Canon C. "W. Turner, of Te Aroha, has been, appointed Vicar-General of the Waikatb diocese and Canon W. G. H. Weadon, of Paeroa, has been appointed Archdeacon of Waikato. Both these offices were held by the late Yen. Archdeacon H. R. B. Gillespie, of Morrinsville, who died last month. Canon Turner has been vicar of Te Aroha since 1930, and a canon of St. Peter's Cathedral, Hamilton, since 1934. Archdeacon Weadon has been vicar of Paeroa since 1927,. and was appointed canon in 1937.
