AIRMAN WINS D.F.C.
Advice has been received that Squadron Leader Arthur William' Mack, a son of Mr. C. W. Mack, 21 Clifton Terrace, Wellington, has been awarded the D.F.C. Squadron Leader Mack was one of the first 18 New Zealanders sent Home in 1937 on short term commissions to the R.A.F. Ten days after war broke out he was flying over Germany when he was forced down over Belgium through shortage of petrol. Three months later he escaped from
Belgium and returned to England. He has a. lengthy operational service record. He has been engaged in bombing targets in Germany, Norway, and Belgium, and his last raid was as a captain in one of the first bombers over Milan, in Italy. Altogether he has participated in 30 long-range bombing raids, and 46 raids in Mosquito bomberfighters, and has several German planes to his credit.
