WAY CLEAR NOW
SPORTS AND SKATING
. Though there were long, and, to the public, inexplicable, delays over getting the Services Sports Centre and the Glide Patriotic Skating Rink under way, no time has been lost since a decision was» made to stop arguing and start work. The generous offer of the American Red Cross to take over the management of the sports centre removed one major problem, of staffing, and the way in which the City Engineer and his assistants worked back night after night to prepare plans made it possible for a start to be made within two days in rearrangement of the tramway power-house for sports, and resurfacing of the floor and renovation of the Glide building.
This morning the final tangles over financing <the sports centre were pretty well untangled. The resurfacing of the Glide rink will be finished tonight or tomorrow and the rink may be reopened some time next week. The rearrangement of the power-house building for sports use promises very well indeed for a moderately-sized stadium for use right through the week, and particularly at weekends, when the need is greatest.
